Charles Pickingill  ( 1790 – 1867 )

 

1.         CHARLES PICKINGILL  was born in ca. 1790 in Canewdon, Essex, England.

 

Charles Pickingill married  SUSANNAH --- ? ----

 

Susannah Pickingill was also referred to as “Hannah Pickingill” several times in the church records of Hockley, Essex, England.  From the 1810’s to the 1830’s, Charles and Susannah / Hannah Pickingill lived in Hockley, Essex where their children were born.  Charles Pickingill was an Agricultural Laborer.

Hannah was born ca. 1801 base on the age at death (37 in 1838)

Hannah Pickingill died in Hockley, Essex at the age of 37 and was buried July 31, 1838 at the church in Hockley.

In 1838, from the Death index, there is a Hannah Pickingill who died in the Rochford District of Essex in the third quarter of 1838.  (Hockley is in the Rochford District of Essex).

Hannah Pickingill probably died at childbirth or shortly after since there is a Birth and Death entry in the indexes of a “Male” Pickingill in the same time, the third quarter of 1838 in the Rochford District.

It is probably after her death when Charles Pickingill, with his younger son, Peter, left Hockley and went back to Canewdon, where he was born.   The younger daughters, Martha and Catherine, ended up in the Rochford Union Workhouse where they were listed at in 1841.  Charles’ oldest daughter, Mary, got married in 1841.

 

In 1841, Charles Pickingill and his son Peter Pickingill were living in Canewdon, Essex.

In 1851, we find Charles Pickingill as a Lodger in Canewdon, Essex  in the household of John Bush an Agricultural laborer.

Charles and Peter Pickingill were listed as Agricultural Laborers in the household of the Jonathan Fordham.  He was also an Agricultural Laborer.

 

In 1867, from the Death index, there is a Charles Pittingale who died at the age of 77 years in the Rochford District of Essex in the second quarter of 1867.  Canewdon would be in the Rochford District.

2.  +  GEORGE PICKINGILL  was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized May 26, 1816 at the church in Hockley.  George Pickingill married Mary Ann  ---?---  (Sarah Ann Bateman?).

 

3.      SAMUEL PICKINGILL   was born in Hockley, Essex.  Samuel died as an infant and was buried July 3, 1819 at the church in Hockley.

 

4.      MARY ANN PICKINGILL   was born in Hockley, Essex.  Mary Ann died at the age of 20 weeks and was buried February 1, 1822 at the church in Hockley.

 

5.      SAMUEL PICKINGILL   was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized April 6, 1823 at the church in Hockley.  Samuel died at the age of 6 months and was buried May 18, 1823 at the church in Hockley.

 

6.  +  MARY ANNE PICKINGILL  was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized April 4, 1824 at the church in Hockley.   Mary Pickingill married James Wells.

 

7.  x   PETER PICKINGILL  was born 1826 in Hockley, Essex and was baptized February 18, 1827 at the church in Hockley.  Peter Pickingill married Jane Wright.

 

8.      JOHN PICKINGILL  was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized May 5, 1828 at the church in Hockley.  John died at the age of 1 month and was buried May 30, 1828 at the church in Hockley.

 

9.       MARTHA PICKINGILL  was born in Hockley, Essex and baptized October 4, 1829 at the church in Hockley.

In 1841, Martha and her younger sister, Catherine, were living in the Rochford Union Workhouse.

11.      JAMES PICKINGILL  was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized May 3, 1834 at the church in Hockley.  James died at the age of 11 months and was buried March 12, 1835 at the church in Hockley.

 

12.      WILLIAM PICKINGILL   was born in Hockley, Essex and was baptized January 8, 1837 at the church in Hockley.  William died at the age of 10 months and was buried July 14, 1837 at the church in Hockley.

 

13.      (MALE) PICKINGILL   was born and died in the third quarter of 1838.

In 1838, from the Birth index, there is a Male Pickingill who was born in the Rochford District of Essex in the third quarter of 1838.  (Hockley is in the Rochford District of Essex).

In 1838, from the Death index, there is a Male Pickingill who died in the Rochford District of Essex in the third quarter of 1838.
