The Downes - Downs family of Canewdon
of the 19th and 20th century
The following is a report on the Downes family of Canewdon, Essex.
Arthur Downes was one of the informants that mentioned about the Witches of Canewdon in his father's life time and is supposedly related to the Pickingill family.
He was interviewed by Bea Howe in 1952 and was mentioned as "the old retired gardener" in her article Witches over the Crouch by Bea Howe. And probably was interviewed by others in the early to mid 1950's.

William
was the father of Arthur Downes. He was born in Hutton, Essex and has connections to
the Downes in Wickham St. Paul, Essex and Hawkwell, Essex.
