James Adams (1793 - ? )
7. JAMES ADAMS was baptized May 17, 1793 at the church in Southminster, Essex.
Father: Philip Adams (No. 1)
Mother: Elizabeth ---?---
His father, Philip Adams, was an Agricultural Labourer. Philip and Elizabeth Adams had several children baptized in Southminster in the 1783 to 1801 period.
They lived in Burnham and Southminster, Essex in the 1780s to early 1800s.
Research Notes:
The James Adams that lived in Canewdon, Essex died before the 1851 census which was the first one to list the birthplace locations. The 1841 census only asked yes or no to if you were born in the county.
And also because the marriage of James Adams and Mary Wilsmore took place before the 1837 starting of the registering marriages, we dont have the advantage of seeing the name of the father of the groom and bride.
So we dont have the absolute yes this is the same James Adams that was baptized in 1793 Southminster, Essex.
But base on that Canewdon is not far from Southminster, Burnham, and Creeksea where Fanny Bird lived. And that he named some of his children Philip, Frances, and Hannah is the names used by the Adams family that baptized their children at Southminster.
But still would like to get more proof.
James Adams married MARY WILSMORE by 1836 or earlier.
Mary Willsmore was born ca. 1801 in Southend, Essex.
James and Mary Adams were living in Southend, Essex from the time of the marriage and the birth of their daughter Hannah in 1836.
In 1836 or 1837, they moved to Canewdon, Essex.
In 1841, James and Mary Adams were living in Canewdon, Essex. James was an Agricultural Laborer.
